The Five Essentials of Wellbeing… especially for the Colorado Active Lifestyle

We live in an amazing state with so much to offer: from playgrounds of endless open space to hundreds of farmers’ markets of local delicious fare, to four seasons of weather to inspire us to get outdoors – as Choose Colorado says, “AN ENVIRONMENT PRIMED FOR HEALTHY LIVING”

With these “healthy living” and “active lifestyle” opportunities, there are Five Essential acts of self-care that are critical to your Wellbeing.

 

  1. Establishing a skin care routine at home and with a professional esthetician.

WHY? We live in state that challenges our skin.  The combination of high elevation, arid desert climate, and 300+ days of sunshine is a combination your skin can’t defend on its own. It needs your daily attention and the attention of a professionally trained esthetician on a monthly or quarterly basis.

  1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate – Drink clean filtered water.

WHY? Again, the climate we live in not only dries out our skin, but it is also dehydrating to our body. It is recommended to drink water based on your weight: take your body weight in pounds and divide that by 2.2, then multiply that number depending on your age [30 or younger = 40, 30 to 55 = 35, 56 and older = 30], then divide that sum by 28.3 – that’s the total number of ounces of water you should drink each day.

  1. Don’t forget the 5 R’s – Rest, Relax, Repair, Restore, Rejuvenate

WHY? Our bodies need downtime to repair and restore.  Our minds need time to relax and unplug from the stress of the day. Our spirit needs space to rejuvenate.

  1. Move and Stretch Daily – Walking and Yoga

WHY? In Colorado it is easy to fall into the “weekend warrior” habit, leaving our bodies sore, stiff, and even injured.  It is important to move and stretch a minimum of 10 minutes a day.

5. Give Yourself a Moment to Pause – Deep Breathing and/or Mediation

WHY? Mindfulness plays a huge role in reducing stress and anxiety.  It helps support overall mental and emotional health by bringing our attention and awareness to the present moment.
